What is the best diet for me?

There is so much information out there, and we get it, it’s confusing, it’s overwhelming and there is no doubt about it, it’s hard to find something that everyone agrees on.

Because of this, choosing a diet for weight loss is becoming increasingly difficult. I’m sure you have all heard the words, keto, fasting, tracking macros and many more. I sympathise with you all, it’s hard to know what to stick to so let’s bring it right down to basics here so you can get a simple, but informative understanding on nutrition so you can make the best decision for yourself.

It is important to mention that you are the person who knows yourself best and therefore you are the best person to decide what diet is best for yourself.

Body weight can be gained, lost or maintained on any diet plan, independent on the macronutrient composition. Instead the total energy is what influences the overall effect on body weight. One thing that everyone can agree on is body weight is result of energy balance (energy in vs. energy out), with a negative energy balance (less energy in vs. energy out) causing weight loss and a positive energy balance (more energy in vs. energy out) causing weight gain.

Some macronutrients maintain feelings of fullness and therefore prevent over eating/snacking between meals. Protein digests slowly and therefore creates feelings of fullness with little food, evidence suggests lower hunger with high protein intake. Good fats (unsaturated) slow down the release of glucose into your bloodstream, therefore result in lower hunger.

Taking this into consideration, for weight loss protein and good fats will be included at each meal within the diet plans to help reduce energy intake and hence ensure a negative energy balance.

As carbohydrates are an easy macronutrient to over eat, keto has become very popular for weight loss – a common misconception however is, this is not the only diet plan that will cause weight loss.

Choose the diet plan that you think will be sustainable for yourself in the long run – if you really enjoy carbohydrates you need to question if keto is best for you, or would our general plan be better. As mentioned, any of our diet plans, if followed correctly and for a sustained period of time, will cause weight loss. Therefore, ensure you pick one you enjoy!

Have a look at our Diet Preferences Explained FAQ to get more information about each meal plan we have available and help guide you to pick the best diet plan that can be sustained.
