Changing Customer Calories

This guide will show you how to adjust a customers daily calories, and the reasons why they might be too high/low

Changing Customer Calories

If you feel calories are too high or low a common reason will be that the client has not put in the correct activity level.

To check this, ask the client their day to day activity level as well as their exercise pattern and ensure it matches up to the activity level they have picked (see descriptions in Changing Customer Activity Level). If it is incorrect, use your discretion to decide to let them know and change activity level or change activity level by forced activity level – see how to do so in: Changing Customer Activity Level. This will have a huge influence on calories and hence is the most common cause for incorrect calories and often the best way to correct these.

Another possible reason is the client has incorrectly entered data. Double check the clients information with them, specifically their weight, height, age, gender and goal as these all have an influence the energy requirements calculated. If the data is incorrect these will need to be updated and a new plan will need to be generated.

If this is all matching up perfectly, it may be possible that the client has followed a very restrictive diet in the past. Remind the client that the energy has been based on an evidenced based calculation (see: How we determine calories).

This calculation puts the client at a realistic and healthy calorie deficit/surplus and will ensure they reach their goals in a sustainable way.
